Have you ever wondered what is was like living a
hundred years ago, or living in a country across the sea? Well, mark your
calendars now to go back to 19th Century old London – and you don't even have to
leave Lafayette-West Lafayette!
The Lafayette-West Lafayette Development
Corporation proudly presents the 11th Annual Dickens of a Christmas. The event
will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2007 on the streets and in the businesses
of downtown Lafayette-West Lafayette. Join us as our downtown is transformed
into Victorian England. The festivities run from 10 am to 6 pm with shopping at
many merchants until 9 pm! Throughout the day, there will be live performances
by choirs and entertainers, roving carolers, Farmers' Market vendors and street
vendors, ice skating sessions at Riverside Skating Rink, artisans in costume
demonstrating their craft, carriage rides, and, of course, the Dickens and
Victorian street characters announced and directed by town criers and a
constable or two! Make sure you take advantage of the many ''Dickens specials''
by downtown restaurants and merchants. The Holiday Lighting and Community Sing
will take place at Riehle Plaza from 5:30 – 6 pm. We will officially ''kick off''
the holiday season by ''flipping the switch'' at 6 pm to light the Courthouse
Dome, Riehle Plaza, Big Four Depot, and the Community Tree. Meet the Dickens
characters as well. Downtown restaurants will be open for dinner, and many
downtown merchants will stay open until 9 pm to allow for additional shopping
opportunities.
