Greater Lafayette Commerce and SCORE are partnering to offer a free workshop entitled How to Start a franchise Business from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, April 11, at the Swezey Commerce Center, 337 Columbia St. in Lafayette.
There is a mis-perception that franchises are expensive and for food and retail only. This workshop will discuss a broader range of franchises and how affordable they can be. Jim Gleason of FranNet of Mid-America will conduct the workshop. Gleason is a franchise consultant with experience matching parties with franchises.
Greater Lafayette Commerce's Jerry Holsapple commented ''The workshop will help participants determine if franchise business ownership is a good fit for them and it will help them find a way to establish that all important first contact with a quality company .''
We still see an interest in entrepreneurship with people leaving their current employers to start a new venture as the economy recovers and as some adjust job searches to include being self employed, says Holsapple. There are many ways to start your own businesses, but there seems to be less understanding of the advantages of franchises.
Topics covered at the workshop include:
What is franchising and why does it work? What are the Pros and Cons?
What are the different types of franchises?
What are the costs associated with owning and operating a franchise?
How to select and investigate a franchise?
Do I have the capabilities and resources to make this happen?
The seminar is free but reservations are recommended.
