Economic Gardening with Scott Hutcheson - "How does your economic garden grow?"
Scott Hutcheson has worked in community and economic development since 1992. In his current position with Purdue University he serves as the Assistant Program Leader. In that role he serves in a senior staff position with the Purdue Center for Regional Development and provides leadership to the university’s statewide Engagement and Extension efforts in Economic and Community Development. In these capacities Scott’s work focuses on innovation-based economic development strategies, community support systems for entrepreneurship, and new approaches to workforce development.
Focusing on an inside-out strategy, economic gardening—growing jobs through entrepreneurship, rather than recruiting companies to a community—can be an effective response to the challenging economy. Economic gardening helps accelerate the growth of local companies by providing sophisticated, tactical and strategic information that is difficult for entrepreneurs to access elsewhere.
Join Scott on September 17 for an informative luncheon on how your community can incorporate economic gardening into its economic development strategy and discover why this economic development strategy works and learn the key steps and questions to ask when starting an economic gardening program.
