Introduction to Lean Concepts – Lean 101 Workshop The Wabash Valley Lean Network and Greater Lafayette Commerce will sponsor a 1-day, Lean 101 Workshop on Thursday, April 25^th, from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Workshop location: SIA Training Center        

Presented by: Purdue University -  NIST Manufacturing Extension Partnership Center.

This is a one-day, hands-on workshop where basic principles of Lean Manufacturing are presented and attendees have an opportunity to experience how lean principles are applied in a simulated production environment.  The workshop will have a “live” simulation which will guide attendees through transition from a traditional manufacturing approach to that of a lean manufacturing environment!  Waste is eliminated, productivity increased, and the company gains a competitive edge in the marketplace.  At this workshop attendees learn the basic principles of lean manufacturing and how to apply them. During the simulation exercises, as a member of the production team, attendees apply lean concepts such as standardized work, visual signals, batch-size reduction, pull systems, quality at the source, and more, plus experience firsthand how lean concepts improve quality, reduce cycle time, improve delivery performance, reduce WIP and enable the company to show a profit.

Although this workshop simulation uses a production environment (we build circuit boards), the lean concepts introduced can easily be adapted to most any type work environment.  This is an excellent workshop and simulation for introducing anyone to basic lean concepts, whether they will be applying these tools to production operations, logistics operations, healthcare/lab operations, service delivery or office operations.

Attendees will participate, have fun, and leave this workshop with a good understanding of how lean concepts could  enhance performance for most any type of organization.  Any organization just getting started on a lean transformation would certainly benefit from having some key personnel attend this workshop. It would also benefit organizations that have been applying lean concepts, but may have some employees who have not been fully exposed to using lean tools.

Primary instructor for this workshop will be:  Michael Hensley, Advanced Manufacturing Specialist, with Purdue University - NIST MEP Center.  Mike has broad experience in industry and as a lean/six sigma consultant/instructor. 

Attendees will receive:  a “Lean 101 Workbook” and a “Lean Certificate” from Purdue University – NIST MEP Center
