Influenced by the artist's younger days spent on and around boats in New England, these selections from his ongoing series of nautically-themed constructions make us stop, laugh, and think. Drawing from a deep well of classical and pop culture allusions, as well as fears, dreams, and current events, the artist crafts his distinctive assemblages from unexpected materials, visual puns, and wit. A professor of art in the Art and Design department at the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, Millard-Mendez uses bold forms and colors to engage viewers and spark conversation and wonder.
