Intro to Value Stream Mapping Presented by Purdue TAP
This is a half-day, hands-on workshop where participants will learn how to create a value stream map (VSM) of current state and future state processes. VSM is usually the first-step of the lean transformation process as it can help visualize/analyze the total value stream for a product or service, highlight sources of ''waste'', establish a common language about the process, show links between information flow and processes, develop an improvement
plan and prioritize future continuous improvement actions to be taken. Participants also learn how to eliminate ''waste'' in the system and achieve dramatic improvements in overall cycle time and costs. Participants will actually draw Current State and Future State maps of a typical manufacturing system.
Attendees will gain hands-on experience with VSM and leave this workshop with a good understanding of how this important lean tool could enhance performance for most any type manufacturing or service organization. Any organization just getting started on a lean transformation would certainly benefit from having some key personnel attend this workshop. It would also benefit organizations that have been applying lean concepts, but may have some employees who have no
